"Dont mention it "He said, and gave him a big shake and a nod. "Matthew Standard" he introduced himself as he poured another glass of water, not uncommon but always desparatly needed in this environ. "its good to see new faces, I had worries this community was about to give out.

Dominic looked around. "It doesn't look like it'll give out any time soon. You have a few customers besides me." He smirked and jerked his head towards an older couple at a table behind him. "Besides. This place has hope. You got me in here didn't ya?" He re-positioned himself so he sat more comfortable on the barstool.

"hope comes and hope goes. I know you know how it is. and sometimes it just goes a little too much and never comes back..." he realized he was being a debby downer and decided to move on. "Its a great town though, its got resourses if people start sticking aound to take advantage. I could see a boom in the next few years if people are willing to work hard." He looked him up and down "say...what made you decide to leave the force after all?" he asked, not being accusatory, just curious.

A haunted look flickered in his eyes, and then dissappeared. He looked at the bartender and sighed, then diverted his gaze to the countertop, where he made circles with his right index finger. "I shot an innocent man." He swollowed, and then continued. "I picked him up along side the road when I was off duty, because his car had broken down and he needed a ride into town. I was still considered a probie, so I was still kinda twitchy. I still had my badge and gun and all that good stuff." He paused. "Anyways, I...uh...he and I were switching through stations for a good song to listen to when something fell out of his coat pocket. It fell to the floorboard of my car and he immediately went to snatch it up, I saw that it looked like a gun. He saw that I had seen it and pointed it at me. I drew my gun and shot him. When he was unconsious, I saw that it was a plastic water gun." He paused again and licked his dry lips. "I didn't know what to do, so I drove him to the hospital in the nearest town and told the doctors that he was shot by someone else and I had found him. I left the next day. I still don't know if he lived or not." Dominic ended his story and looked at the bartender. With a slight grin, he said. "The end." He then went back to staring at the countertop.

The bartender let a sigh of relief. He had heard many people do worse. Many men tried to kill and took comfort in knowing they succeeded. He nodded and rinsed out a cup made from a water-bottle cut in half and poured him a tall whiskey, seeing he needs it. "sounds like what a man gets for wielding a water-gun in times like this...but you needn't dwell on that, men have done worse things"

Dominic smiled a genuine smile. "Thanks, pal. You know, you're a real friend. I've never met a nicer man then you." He paused. "I haven't met that many men besides fellow police officers, but hey. You're cool." He took a sip of whiskey. He lifed the glass partially off of the bar. "It's good."

He gave up a grin and nodded in thanks at the fine compliment. "you beat out a fair number of standard bar patrons yourself. I guess we're both just an uncommon breed, out of place in time. So how interested in that work I mentioned are you. " It had, after all, been weeks since Carrion checked in and he was beginning to worry about the woman. He knew she could hold her own, but these times were unpredictable.

Dominic thought for a moment. "Fairly interested. But...if I get a job, will that one gal still have a job here? I don't want to run her out of one." He paused a second, then continued. "If you let me have the job, when do I start?"

"I'm not giving away her position, I'm sending you on a job" explained the man. He was helping him, not giving up on Carrion. "you can start in the next three days, I'll need you to head down through the mesas to Needles...Do you drive?" he was wonering how much the man could move at any one time.

An twisted grin lit up Dominic's face. "Heck yeah. It's part of the job when you're a cop. I was even involved in a few chases." He thought back momentarily to his first chase as an officer. His cruiser had gotten a little beaten up, but they got the guy in the end. "So when do you want me to leave? And do I need to find a vehicle?"

"you'll need to find your own means of travel, but that aughtn't be too difficult. Especially if you atleast have connections to 'the law'. and you can leave when your ready, I'm not here to shove you out the door, If Needles thinks I'm causing a delay to drive up prices they'e lible to take the trouble to come here, but at risk of my kneecaps." He said, He was caught up in things but law wasn't what it used to be, and some people were pleased at the new found simplicity.

"Is it okay if I leave now? Because...heh...I have nothing better to do." Dominic asked, finishing his drink. He knew he was going to have a massive headache tomorrow.

"if that's what you're fixin' for. you can go when you please. I need those two crates" he pointed to a pair of wooden boxes stacked up in the corner looking like nothing important "in needles post haste, get 'em to a man named Andrew Roth or people nastier than me'll take a curious liking to you kneecaps, I'm afraid to say." He placed a bag of caps on the counter for payment "there's a little extra as a thankyou for washing my hands of it."

He took the bag of caps. "Thanks, dude. I owe you one." He said before exiting the building. Now all he had to do was find a car. He looked to the right and saw an old Chevrolet pickup truck sitting in the parking lot, abandoned. He got in and saw that there were no keys. He reached under the dashboard and pulled to wires. He pressed the two together and the truck roared to life. He slowly backed up to the building and went in and loaded the crates. With a final wave to his new friend, he was off.

"God speed" he said giving him a goodbye, "the woman you're to keep an eye out's name is Carrion goes by Carrie. she looks like trouble and always has a rifle on her back, you can't miss her"
