Even though there was a plethora of things that Nick could do to occupy himself, he found himself bored today. Although there was plenty of excitement when a group of raiders had attacked late in the last week, everything had been cleaned up and gone back to normal. The only real difference for Nick was being in posession of approximately five more bulets for his handgun. That had been an accident too. One of the raiders had dropped a half loaded pistol when they fled.
Now, he was back to wandering around, doing nothing really. He noticed a few people that might be worth travelling with, but either none of them wanted his company or they thought he was just going to abandon them the minute things got hairy. Oh well, if no one wanted to travel with him yet then he would just keep on looking for people that would.
Heading back to where he had set up a tent the previous evening, Nick sat down on a lump of sandstone and tried to start a small cooking fire so that he could make himself some lunch. About halfway through the process, he heard some shouts and a general ruckus from over by the main gate. Standing up and walking towards where the shout were coming from, Nick noticed that there was a plume of sand being shot into the air from out in the desert. It was getting closer too.
Rushing to the exterior stairs of a building, Nick took them two at a time so he could get to the roof. Kneeling beside the low wal, he looked through the scope on his rifle. Raiders. Again. As he was about to shout his findings to the mass of people below, someone else with a pair of binoculars beat him to it. Deciding not to waste any time waiting for them to get closer, he laid down by a missing section of wall and gripped his rifle. Putting the crosshairs on the lead man, Nick slowly drew in a breath. As he was letting it out he paused for a second...and squeezed off the first round.
