Carriion was just outside Needles on her way into town when she let her gaurd down. She let her van roll over caltrops in the road where raiders had thrown them in the hopes of stopping a car in the recent past. they had moved on and sold the car for scrap but the debris on the road blew out her tires and sent the van into a skid and onto its side. It slid, her still pouring pure grian alcohal around the insde of vehicle as it slid to a noisy halt. As the alcohal and gasoline pooled the burner that heated the still fell out of place and touched off the mixture, turning the back of the van into a raging red and black inferno. Carrie managed to grab her rifle, for which she hasn't had ammunition for years, and her sack of caps, climbing out the top door of the van in record time and fleeing as the fire got fierce and managed to avoid major burns, showing only minor blistering on her upper arm and leg. She stood watching her vehicle burning and looked up at the plume of black smoke and started walking, not wanting to be found out here alone, and without her hermit-crab shell she had grown so acustomed to. She walked at an even pace into the town of Needles, she had to start all over again, a stranger in another ratty little desert outpoast.

Carrie marched herself into town, grumbling and wondering how she would pull herself together and get back on her feet. Every few hundred yards she would look back and admire the column of smoke rising from her old van until she was on the edge of town, looking back and forth at the near deserted streets. She had been to Needles before but only briefly and wasn't sure where in the settlement people were located. She had always appreceated how genuine the community was, sprung up out of the need for an outpost on the edge of some of the harshest wastes on earth. She hoped she had enough caps for food and drink and maybe a stay in an uncontaminated building. She never bothered to do the math to figure out how much fallout had actually snowed down on this town but figured by location that it must have been bad. Maybe, she though, she could find an old missile silo near by and settle down underground where it was cool and comfortable and well water was a plenty.
